No. 6 – Lauren Malcolm and Shyasia Preston Both Record 20 Points and 20 Rebounds Setting A New BMCC Single-Game Program Record in a 74-69 victory against Rockland C.C.
Coming in at No. 6 in our 2019-20 Top-10 Moments is women's basketball forwards
Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) and
Shyasia Preston (Far Rockaway, New York) rewriting the BMCC program record books as the first two players to both record 20 points and 20 rebounds in a single-game during a 74-69 win over
Rockland Community College. The 20 point and 20 rebound efforts were the Panther's first in three seasons since
Ashley Brooks did it back on January 24th, 2017, against
Nassau Community College. Both players also recorded their double-doubles in the first-half.
Malcolm's 24 point output set a new career-high, including a career-best 8-for-11 from the charity stripe. Her 20 rebounds were five shy of her career-high 25 back on January 16th, 2020, vs.
Dutchess Community College.
Preston also racked up a new career a career-high 20 points with career-bests shooting from the field (7-for-16) and at the charity stripe (6-for-9).
They also helped put the game away in the third quarter with both ladies scoring 11 of the 19 points of a 19-5 run to build the lead to 58-49 going into the fourth quarter and leading the Panthers to a 74-69 victory.
Malcolm finished the 2019-20 campaign as the Panther's top rebounder, posting a team-and career-best with 12.2 rebounds per game while hauling down 20 plus rebounds twice. The
two-time CUNYAC All-Star posted double-digit rebounds a team-best 14 times this season and 27 times for her career while registering a team-best five double-doubles this year and nine total for her career. She finished her Panther career third in school history with 420 career rebounds, passing
Chidinma Ogueri.
The Bronx native also posted career-bests this year in steals (50) and points per game (8.8) and tied for seventh in BMCC history in career steals (80) and ranked 16th in school history with 316 career points.
Preston swatted away a team-high eight blocks this season for the Panthers and finished second on the team in rebounds per game (8.9). She also recorded eight double-digit rebound games and three double-doubles, which were good for second on the team, while her 172 total rebounds tied her for 16th in BMCC history with
Alexis Hart .
The Far Rockaway native also was named to
CUNYAC and
Region XV All-Sportsmanship teams and was the second straight BMCC player to receive the conference honor award after
Naya Verley got it last year.
