FLUSHING, N.Y. (November 7, 2022) – The BMCC men's basketball team were ranked second in the 2022-23 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) community college men's basketball preseason poll yesterday. Hostos Community College received the first-place spot accumulating five of six first-place votes after going 21-11 last season and a second straight CUNYAC title while reaching the NJCAA Region XV Men's Basketball Championship finals.
Caimans' guard Marquise Paulin was voted Preseason Player of the Year. A CUNYAC All-Star in 2021-22, Paulin averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per contest.
BMCC was picked second with 18 points, followed by Queensborough (16), Bronx (14), Kingsborough (12), and LaGuardia (5).
The Panthers are led by sophomore guard Jeremiah Cardi (New York, New York) an All-Region XV Second Team honoree who led BMCC in scoring average (14.5 PPG), points (232), field goals made (86), assists (32), and tied tops for another in three-pointers made (25). Cardi exploded on the scene right out of the gate during the opening week of the 2021-22 season, dropping a career-high 31 points in the season opener during an 87-69 victory over Kingsborough Community College and 26 points against Nassau Community College, posting a 28.5 points per average in week one. His efforts earned him CUNYAC All-Star accolades while he also finished the season with a team-high 12 double-figure games in 17 contests.
The Panthers begin the season this Thursday, November 10, at 7 p.m. against Rockland Community College.
The 2022-23 CUNYAC Community College Men's Basketball Championship is scheduled to begin with semifinal action on Wednesday, February 15, followed by the tournament final on Friday, February 17. The semifinals and final will be played at BMCC Gymnasium.
