Panthers Knock Off Queensborough Tigers To Pick Up Key Region Win

NEW YORK, NY -  Panthers, snapped their 4-game skid, with a 70 to 67, victory over CUNY rival Queensborough Community College.  QCC came into the game as the top seed in the region and conference, entering the week as receiving votes in the national poll, but the Panthers would not be deterred as they were led by Sophomore Brandon Duran (New York, New York) who scored a season high 27 points in the victory.

Following a turnover on their first possession for the Tigers, BMCC would score the first basket of the game on an offensive rebound and put-back by Tyleek Turner (Brooklyn, New York) to give the Panthers a quick 2-0 lead.  Following a three pointer from the Tigers, BMCC's Noah Smith (Brooklyn, New York) would answer with a floater to regain the lead for the Panthers and then a quick 3 pointer from Brandon Duran (New York, New York) increased the lead to 7-3 causing the Tigers to take an early timeout.  Continued hot shooting from distance by Duran and Alijah Banks (Brooklyn, New York) helped the Panthers take a 33-31 lead into the halftime break.

The second half continued, just as the 1st half ended, with hot shooting from deep from the Panthers.  With Duran and Noah Smith, leading the Panthers to go on a 18-4 run and take a game-high 16 point lead at 51-35.  The Tigers, however, would not go down without a fight and showed why they are a top team in the region by cutting the deficit down to 3 at 64-61 with just under 3 minutes to go in the game.  BMCC would once again look to Brandon, who drove to basket and drew a foul on the Tigers.  The sophomore calmly stepped to the line and knocked down both free throws; increasing the lead to 66-61 with 2:50 remaining on the clock.  Following a 4-0 Tigers run, the Panthers lead was trimmed to 66-65 with just over a minute left in regulation.  However, a big basket from Sophomore Abdul-Rehman Quiser (Queens, New York) and 2 huge free throws from Noah Smith sealed the Panthers 70-67 victory!

With the win, the Panthers improve to 6-9 overall, 3-3 conference.
