New York, New York | NJCAA Region XV announced the 2020 Men's All-Region Team and postseason awards for all three divisions on Wednesday, and two members from the Men's Basketball team were honored. Freshman forward Malik Bentinck (Queens, New York) received Second Team All-Region XV recognition, while sophomore Terrance McBride (Brooklyn, New York) garnered All-Region Honorable mention honors. Bentinck and McBride both received regional honors for the first time in their careers.
Earlier last week, Bentinck and McBride were both chosen as CUNYAC Community College All-Stars by the conference's head coaches.
In his first year at BMCC, Bentinck was a terror on the glass leading the Panthers with 11.7 rebounds per game and a team-best 17 double-doubles in 24 games. The Queens native hauled down 280 total rebounds, which was fourth-most at BMCC in a single-season and ninth overall in school history. He also ripped down a career-high 25 rebounds against Bronx Community College on Dec. 10, two shy of the BMCC's single-game record of 27 set by Jericho Cherisma on Jan. 21, 2017 against Dutchess Community College. Bentinck also achieved the Panther's first 20 rebound game in two seasons since forward Viktor Kovacevic did it back on Jan. 20, 2018.
The performance garnered Bentinck NJCAA Division III Player of the Week during week six of the season from December 9-15.
He also got it done on offense with a team-best twelve 20-point games and recording double-figures 22 times in 24 games, good for second on the team. Bentinck also racked up 438 total points during the 2019-20 campaign, which was seventh-most in BMCC single-season history and 20th overall in school history. His best performance came against Bronx Community College on Dec. 10, 2019, with a career-high 30 points.
McBride made an impact for the Panthers in his only season, leading in points (516) and points per game (21.6), while both totals were also fourth-most in BMCC single-season history. The Brooklyn native concluded his Panther career with a team-high 23 double-figure games in 24 contests to go along with a team-best four 30-point performances on the year. He also finished second on the squad with eleven 20-point games and moved into 11th in program history with 516 career points passing Brandon Herriot. McBride also finished tops on BMCC this season in assists (109) and steals (46) and second in rebounds (119).
