New York, New York | BMCC men's basketball freshman forward Malik Bentinck (Queens, New York) garnered NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the first time this season as announced by the NJCAA on Wednesday. The recognition is for week 6 of the 2019-20 season for games played December 9-15.

Bentinck racked up a career week, averaging a double-double with 25.3 points and 14.3 rebounds, leading the Panthers to three straight victories to end 2019. 

In an 82-81 home come from behind victory over Bronx Community College on December 10th, Bentinck posted career-highs with 30 points and 25 rebounds, with 18 points and 13 rebounds coming in the first half. He also notched the program's first 20 rebound game in two seasons, with his 25 boards just two shy of the BMCC's single-game record set by Jericho Cherisma of 27. 

The 6'5 game wrecking big man from Queens, New York, kept it on that dial for the rest of the week averaging 22 points and 10.5 rebounds in BMCC's two road victories against Bergen Bergen County C.C. on December 12th against Bergen County C.C. and December 14th against Schenectady County C.C.  

Bentinck dropped a game-high 23 points and hauled down ten boards against the Bulldogs on Thursday and also registered team-highs with 21 points and 11 rebounds for his sixth consecutive double-double and his team-leading eighth versus the Royals on Saturday.

Bentinck ranks in the Top-25 among NJCAA DIII men's basketball players in four categories. He is sixth with 12.5 rebounds per game, 10th with 8.0 defensive rebounds per game, tied for 11th with 4.3 offensive rebounds per game, and 14th with 137 total rebounds.
