The Panthers faced off against Union County on Saturday, followed by a game against County College of Morris on Sunday. BMCC opened the season with an 8 point loss to the Union Owls, but managed to show their resiliency by beating Morris 107-98 on Day 2.
In their win over the Morris Knights, the Panthers had three players reach 20 points, with
George Keener leading the team with 29 points after going 11-12 from the field. His teammates
Jason Mejia and
Terrell Fullerton would finish the game with 25 and 22 points, respectively. After
Christopher Arminas (12 pts, 10 reb) recorded the team's first double-double of the season the day before, Sophomore
Jericho Cherisma (13 pts, 11 reb) followed up with a double-double of his own in the Panthers win. For his effort throughout the tournament, Panthers guard Mejia earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after racking up 51 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals through two games.
"I'm proud of the effort our guys showed today, we still have room for improvement but it was a great team win today" said Thomas Guerin after getting his first win as head coach of the Panthers. "It was great to get the first win of the season, now we can shift our focus to Kingsborough"
The Panthers will look to carry the momentum from their first win into next Tuesday when they take on the Kingsborough Wave in their home opener. Attendance is free, so we encourage all Panther fans to come to BMCC Gymnasium to watch the men's and women's basketball teams tip off their CUNYAC season.
