Each Top-10 moment voted by our athletics staff will be unveiled, with a recap every Tuesday and Thursday for the next five weeks, culminating with our top moment of the 2019-20 athletic year, which will be released Thursday, September 17th.
No. 9 – Amehon Named DIII NJCAA Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week
Returning at No. 9 in our 2019-20 Top-10 Moments is BMCC men's soccer goalkeeper
Apelete Amehon (Kara, Togo (West Africa) garnering
DIII NJCAA Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a ten save performance, including eight of them in the first half, in a 1-0 against
Suffolk Community College in the Region XV semifinals.
The freshman goalkeeper stopped all 12 shots during the first two rounds of the 2019 Region XV Tournament to lead the BMCC to victories in the
quarterfinals against Queensborough and
semifinals against Suffolk C.C. to punch the Panther's ticket to the Regional final for the first time since 2012.
Amehon was tremendous between the pipes for BMCC, backstopping the Panther defense with team-highs in wins (8), shutouts (5), goals-against average (0.90), and save percentage (.809).
Amehon is also tied for fifth and tied 11th in DIII in shutouts (5) and Wins (8), his 0.90 goals-against average and .809 save percentage ranked 13th and 24th in the country.
Amehon and the rest Panthers enjoyed a remarkable season in 2019, as the squad won their
10th CUNYAC Community College Championship and their third in four seasons.
Amehon will be the rock for BMCC men's soccer's defense in net next season as the Panthers look to defend their CUNYAC crown and return to the Regional finals.
