Seldon, N.Y. | The BMCC men's soccer team is heading to the Regional Finals for the first time in nine seasons! The #3-seed Panthers upended #2-seed Suffolk County Community College, 1-0, in a tightly contested matchup on the road Saturday afternoon in Seldon, N.Y. BMCC improves to 10-2-2 on the season and posted double-digit victories for the first time since 2017, while Suffolk C.C. finishes at 11-7-2.
Both teams played to a scoreless first half, with Suffolk outshooting BMCC 8-5. Freshman goaltender Apelete Amehon (Kara, Togo (West Africa) made eight first-half saves to keep the score 0-0 at halftime.
After an uneventful first ten minutes of the second half, BMCC finally broke through in the 55th minute as freshman Michael Konadu (Kwahu, Ghana) put a gorgeous ball onto the foot of Mohammad Cisse (Bronx, New York) who put in the back of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Suffolk had numerous opportunities to tie it up but, Amehon helped preserve his fifth clean sheet on the season and the 1-0 victory to send the Panthers into the Regional final.
Amehon also recorded his second double-digit save performance on the season, making ten stops in the match.
