New York, New York | The National Junior College Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that BMCC freshman goaltender
Apelete Amehon (Kara, Togo (West Africa) earned DIII NJCAA Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week for his performance in the Panther's Region XV semifinal victory last weekend.
Amehon recorded his second double-digit save performance of the season with ten stops, including eight in the first half, in a 1-0 victory over Suffolk Community College in the Regional semis last week. He has stopped all 12 shots he has faced in the 2019 Region XV Tournament.
Amehon is the heart and soul of the BMCC defense, backstopping the Panther defense with team-highs in wins (8), shutouts (5), goals-against average (0.90), and save percentage (.809). In addition to leading his team in all four categories,
Amehon is also tied for fifth in DIII in shutouts (5) and tied 11th in DIII in Wins (8), while ranking 13th in the country with a 0.90 goals-against average and 24th in the nation with a .809 save percentage.
Amehon and the rest Panthers have enjoyed a remarkable season in 2019, as the squad won their 10th CUNYAC Community College Championship and their third in four seasons, before defeating Queensborough and Suffolk C.C. to book their ticket to the Regional final for the first time since 2012.
