New York, NY | On Tuesday afternoon the National Junior College Athletic Association released the first
Division III men's basketball rankings since the regular season began. After opening the season with 11 straight wins, including a 20 point victory over the top team in the preseason rankings, the Panthers were ranked 2
nd in the country by the NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball Poll Committee.
The Panthers' hot start can be attributed to their dynamic offense, as a team they currently rank 2
nd in three point shooting percentage, 5
th in points per game, and 8
th in shooting percentage. At this stage in the season BMCC has outscored teams by a margin of 18.5 points per game and outrebounded by an average of 8 rebounds. While the offense has been the key to their success, the defense has limited opposing teams to just 40.2% shooting from the field.
BMCC has been led by strong play from their sophomore guards. Coming off of an All-American campaign his freshman season,
Terrell Fullerton currently leads the Panthers and is ranked 8
th in the country in scoring with 24.8 points per game, and 2
nd in the country in assists with 8.5 per game. The Panthers have 2 of the top 10 three point shooters in the country, with
Quran Dublin and
Alex Humphreys ranking 4
th and 8
th in the country in made three pointers. The BMCC starting five is rounded out with forwards
Viktor Kovacevic and
Ashan Adams, both of which are scoring above 10 points per game while averaging 7.8 rebounds.
With the national spotlight now on the Panthers, they can expect opposing teams to give their best effort every game for the rest of the season. The men's basketball team will look to carry their undefeated streak into 2019, but first they will have to take care of business in the three games remaining before winter break. The next home game will be on December 13
th when the Panthers take on the Bergen Bulldogs as part of a women's/men's doubleheader. Though the team is now nationally ranked, admission to all games remains free, so come out to BMCC Gymnasium to show support for your BMCC Panthers.
