FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2018) - On Monday night, Borough of Manhattan Community College and Queensborough Community College will meet to decide the league champion in the 2018 CUNYAC/USS Community College Men's Soccer Championship at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth.
It is the fifth year in a row that BMCC and Queensborough will clash for the conference championship. The two teams have split the last four meetings (2-2), but BMCC has won the previous two by respective 5-2 and 4-0 decisions.
In this year's regular-season meeting, BMCC escaped with a 2-1 victory, behind a 77th-minute goal from sophomore forward
Jahvaughnie Johnson.
Johnson has spearheaded the Panthers to a 7-3 record in 2018, and as high as a No. 5 national ranking in the NJCAA Division III Poll.
In 10 games, Johnson has scored 14 goals and added three assists for a 31-point output. He also has five game-winning goals to his credit, which is tied for the third-most of any player in the country.
Queensborough has been led by the efforts of freshman forward
Luis Flores, who has found the back of the net six times as a rookie. Sophomore forward
Jose Ramirez has five goals on the year for the Tigers, while sophomore midfielder
Jeffrey Castaneda has netted four goals.
Queensborough has been impressive on the road, winning five of its six matches away from home. The Tigers' last three road victories have come by an average of 4.0 goals per game.
