TwitterLOCH SHELDRAKE, NY| The #4 Borough of Manhattan Community College men's basketball team earned a gutsy 93-91 win over #5 Sullivan County Community College on the road on Saturday afternoon to improve to 21-3 on the season. The Panthers remain atop the NJCAA Region XV D-III standings, meanwhile 18-4 Sullivan occupies the second spot.Guard Elijah Bryant scored a team-high 17 points, converting two clutch three-pointers in the latter stages of the second half. Kenneth Coar and Akeem Williams potted 16 each with the latter also collecting 10 rebounds and two blocks. Justin Manon shot 3-4 from three and finished with 15 points and Joseph Ojo scored 11 points and tied a career-best with eight assists.
Forward Lowell Stevens was huge off the bench, establishing career-highs in points (14) and rebounds (8).
The Lady Panthers surrendered a 103-43 decision to the Sullivan women in the first game of the doubleheader and fell to 6-13 overall this season.
Kristen Merrell recorded her 12th straight double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Ashley Duplan shot 2-4 from three and scored eight points.
The men have clinched first place in the CUNYAC Community College Tournament--which will be hosted by BMCC--set to take place February 17-20. Their semifinal match will take place on Wednesday the 18th at either 6:00 or 8:00 PM. The final will be played on Friday the 20th at 8:30 PM.
The women are still in contention to qualify for the CUNYAC and regional tournaments.
Both the men and women are back in action on Tuesday, February 10 when they face CUNYAC rival Queensborough Community College in Bayside, Queens. The women play at 5:30 PM and the men at 7:30 PM.
