Men’s Basketball Returns to #7 in D-III National Poll

The Panthers continue to reaffirm their status among the elite teams in the nation

 The Borough of Manhattan Community College men's basketball team returned to #7 in the NJCAA Division-III National Top 10 after falling to #11 last week, as per the NJCAA website on Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers, who boast a 14-3 overall record (12-3 Region XV, 7-0 CUNYAC), slipped out of the Top 10 last week after suffering a 72-63 loss to regional rival Nassau Community College on January 10. BMCC used its 75-55 win over Passaic County Community College on Thursday, January 15 to propel itself back into the Top 10.

Joining BMCC in the national rankings is fellow Region XV side Sullivan County Community College, who moved up two spots from #5 to #3 after their 102-63 victory at Kingsborough Community College on Friday, January 16.

The Panthers' match against Passaic was their only action last week. Guard Elijah Bryant led all scorers with 24 points in addition to adding five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Power forward Kenneth Coar scored 10 points, blocked six shots and grabbed five boards.

BMCC maintains its position of first in the nation in opponents' field goal percentage (34.6%) and remains in the top 10 in rebounding (third) and blocks (fourth). Center Akeem Williams is second in the region and tenth in the nation in blocks (2.9 per game).
The Panthers defeated Kingsborough last night by the score of 79-63 on the back of captain Joseph Ojo's 20 points.

BMCC is back in action tomorrow, January 22, when they welcome Rockland Community College to Manhattan for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
