New York, New York – After etching his name into the top five in five single-season and all-time offensive categories for BMCC Baseball during the 2023 season, sophomore Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) became the first Panther baseball player in 13 years to receive All-Region 15 First Team while freshman
Nicholas Mattera (Moorpark, California) was named to the All-Region 15 Second Team as voted on by the Region's coaches. The accolades are the first for both players, and it's the first time in six years that the BMCC Baseball program has had multiple players receive All-Region 15 honors.
Stanley DeLaCruz, Harry Santiago, and
Garison Polius all were the previous All-Region 15 First Team selections from 2012, while
Reginald German (New York, NY) and
Terrance Biel (Bronx, NY) grabbed All-Region 15 Second Team honors in 2015.
Reyes, also an All-Region 15 Sportsmanship Team honoree
, was a lethal bat in the Panther lineup during the 2023 season in the lead-off spot leading BMCC in seven different offensive categories and tying for first in another. The sophomore shortstop registered season-bests in nine different offensive categories leading the Panthers for a
second straight season in batting average (.397), hits (29), and doubles (7) while also leading BMCC in
slugging percentage (.616), RBIs (22), steals (20), multi-hit games (9), multi-RBI games (6) and tying for the lead in triples (3). He was also second in
runs scored with 21.

His seven doubles and
three triples are the second most in a single season, while his 22 RBIs and 20 steals are the third most in a single season, and his 29 hits rank fourth.
Reyes finishes his
career tied for second all-time with three career triples. His 45 career hits and 29 steals are third most in school history, and his 26 career RBIs and 11 career doubles are fourth.

Reye's best performance in the season came in the Panther's home opening victory over Queensborough Community College on March 21st in a dominant 17-5 for the program's first regular season win since the 2019 season and the team's biggest hitting output since 2018. The sophomore went off for a career-high four hits and four RBIs to go along with two doubles for the second time, which tied a career-high.

He also received CUNYAC All-Star accolades for the second straight season, becoming the first BMCC baseball player to receive CUNYAC All-Star accolades twice since Wilson Aristy did it in the 2013 and 2015 seasons.

The sophomore shortstop also made headlines nationally earlier in the season, getting to as high as third in the country earlier in the season with a .625 batting average.

Reyes also impacted BMCC in the infield as the shortstop finishing the season
second on the team with 66 putouts and posting 91 putouts for his career.
Mattera immediately made an impact when he stepped on campus, leading the Panthers in
runs scored (27) and home runs (2) while tying for first in triples with three. The Moorpark, California native's
three triples were the second-most in a single season and all-time in program history. His
two homers were also tied for second-most in a single season and third in all-time program history.

Mattera, who finished 2023 with a five-game hitting streak, was also
second in steals (10), slugging percentage (.538), and doubles (5) while also ranking third in multi-hit games (6) and multi-RBI games (3). He also finished third on the team in
three other offensive categories (.360) batting average, (27) hits, and (15) RBIs.

He also posted a
career-high in four RBIs and two doubles in game two of the Panther's matchup against Queensborough Community College on April 10, 2023. The
2023 CUNYAC CC Baseball All-Star also registered
a career-best three hits three separate times in the Panther's first victory of the season against Queensborough Community College on March 21, 2023, and
game two against the Tigers on April 10, 2023, and
Bronx Community College on April 17, 2023.

He has also made an impact for BMCC on defense in the outfield and on the mound, leading the way with
31 strikeouts, the
third-most in a single season and
sixth in all-time program history, while also being
third on the team in putouts with 61 and a .969 fielding percentage.
