Panthers Lose Both Games In CUNYAC Doubleheader; Reyes Moves Into Fourth All-Time In School History In Career Hits

Bronx, New York – The BMCC Baseball team lost both games of their CUNYAC doubleheader to Bronx Community College 7-4 and 29-13 at home on Monday at Ohio Field. The victory improves the Broncos to 6-15 (6-6 CUNYAC), while the loss drops the Panthers to 2-16 (2-10 CUNYAC).

Game 1 – Bronx Community College 7, Borough of Manhattan 4
Bronx Community College grabbed the first three runs of the game, with one in the top of the first and two more in the top of the third, to lead 3-0. The Panthers would cut their lead down to two, 3-1, after four when Gerardo Galan Berihuete (Brooklyn, New York) brought Abdel Raheem Dolah (Brooklyn, New York) across home plate with an RBI double. After the Broncos extended their lead to 5-1 with two runs in the top of the sixth, the Panthers trimmed the deficit down to two, 5-3, with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) and Nicholas Mattera (Moorpark, California) led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Dolah would bring both of them in on a two-run single, keeping BMCC within striking distance going into the seventh. Bronx Community College got two more runs in the top of the seventh to stretch their advantage to 7-3, with BMCC's last licks coming up in the bottom of the inning. After being down to their final out, Luis Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) kept them alive when he reached on an error to the third basemen. Freshman Christian Hill (Bronx, New York) came up big in a pitch-hit situation forcing a five-pitch at-bat and ripping an RBI single to left field to cut the lead to 7-4. Reyes couldn't inch the Panthers any closer as he flew out to the shortstop to end the game, giving the Broncos a 7-4 win. 

Reyes and Dolah led the Panthers with two hits apiece as Reyes posted his team-best eighth multi-hit game of the season while Dolah recorded his fourth of the year. Dolah also drove in a team-high two runs and stole a team-best two bases.

Mattera and Hill joined Berihuete with a hit apiece while Berihuete also drove in one run. Mattera and classmate Ramirez also had one steal apiece.

Jordy Garcia got his third victory of the season allowing four runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out seven and walking zero. Mattera got the loss despite a strong outing where he struck out nine batters for the second time this season and allowed seven runs on eight hits.

Sophomore Maxwell Jimenez (Dominican Republic) posted his second double digit putout effort in Game one of the Panthers CUNYAC doubleheader with a team-high 10 putouts. 

Game 2 – Bronx Community College 29, Borough of Manhattan 13
The Panthers got off to a stronger start earlier on, responding in the bottom of the first with four runs after Broncos opened the scoring to lead 4-1. Sophomore Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) led things off for the Panthers with a sizzling single to third base before freshman Nicholas Mattera (Moorpark, California) unloaded an RBI triple to center field to tie it up then sophomore Abdel Raheem Dolah (Brooklyn, New York) brought him across two batters later with an RBI single to give BMCC their first lead 2-1. Freshman Jeffrey Roldan (New York, New York) unloaded an RBI double, and Luis Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) connected on an RBI single to give the Panthers a 4-1 lead going into the top of the second. The Broncos picked up two runs in the top of the inning to cut the Panther's lead down to 4-3 before BMCC added a run in the bottom of the inning when sophomore Maxwell Jimenez (Dominican Republic) registered a sacrifice fly RBI to make it 5-3 after two. BMCC added two more runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 7-3 when Ramirez scored on a wild pitch and a Dolah RBI single. After the Bronx used a four-run top of the fourth inning to knot the game up at seven apiece, BMCC exploded for six in the bottom of the inning to build their lead to the largest in the game, six, 13-7 going into the top of the fifth. Freshman Christian Hill (Bronx, New York) reached on an error by the shortstop and scored on an error by the third baseman to put BMCC back in front 8-7. With the bases loaded, Reyes blasted a base-clearing three-run triple to left field to increase the margin to 11-7. Mattera and Dolah would follow with back-to-back RBI singles to make it 13-7 going into the top of the fifth. The Bronx got one in the top of the inning to get the lead down to 13-8 and shut down BMCC's offense in the bottom of the inning and the rest of the way before exploding for 21 runs in the top of the sixth to lead 29-13. The Panthers would go down in order in the bottom of the sixth, closing out the 29-13 victory for the Broncos.
 
The Panthers posted their sixth game with 10 or more hits, racking up 11 in game two of their CUNYAC doubleheader. Reyes and Dolah joined Mattera to lead the Panther's offense with three hits apiece. Reyes put up his team-leading ninth multi-hit game of the season and team-high tied third three-hit game and triple of the season. Reyes also moved into fourth all-time in school history with 41 career hits, passing Aristy Wilson's total of 40.
 
Mattera recorded his sixth multi-hit game and team-high tied three-hit game and triple of the year. Dolah also registered his fifth multi-hit game of the season. Roldan uncorked his third double of the season, while Ramirez also chipped in with a hit in the contest.
 
Reyes and Mattera both stole a game-high three bases each while HillRoldan, and Ramirez joined Dolah with one each.
 
Luis Sanchez got the win for the Broncos, going one inning and allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one, and walking zero. Albel Ruan entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Samuel De La Rosa started the game for Bronx CC, going three innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, and striking out two. 
 
Roldan started the game for BMCC, lasting five and third innings and allowing 14 hits and 13 runs while striking out three.
 
Jimenez also led the Panthers defensively for a second straight game with a team-high five putouts.
