New York, New York – After leading the Panthers to a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory last Sunday against Kingsborough Community College in the 2023 CUNYAC Community College Men's Soccer Championship, sophomore
Abdul Mumin Seidu (Bronx, New York) and freshman
Mamadou Diallo (Conakry, Guinea) were rewarded with
Mumin Seidu being named
CUNYAC Player of the Week and
Diallo receiving Rookie of the Week honors.
Mumin Seidu picks up Conference honors for the second time in his career after receiving a
Rookie of the Week nod last season, while the honor is the third this season for
Diallo after receiving
Honorable Mention twice.
Seidu has been perfect in October, going 5-0, and picked up three huge victories in net with solid efforts in a 4-2 road victory at Orange Community College and two wins on the road against Kingsborough Community College, 3-1, and again against the Wave in the 2023 CUNYAC Community College Men's Soccer Championship.
The Bronx, New York native made 17 saves combined in their two victories over Kingsborough Community College. The
2022 CUNYAC All-Star stopped six shots in BMCC's comeback win last Thursday against the Wave and a season-high 11 saves in the Conference Championship game three days later, with eight of them coming in the second half to help the Panthers erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and win their second straight league title, 3-2.
Mumin Seidu's efforts got him the Championship's Most Valuable Player, and he notched a career-best seventh victory. His victory total is the most in four seasons for a netminder, and one away from the eight
Dhondup Tharchen registered during the 2017 season.
Diallo has been red hot for the Panthers on offense with six goals in his last contests with his team-leading 11th marker, the second goal in the CUNYAC Community College Championship, tying him for seventh most in a single season. The Conakry, Guinea native was the first BMCC men's soccer player to record double-digit goals since Seydou Diallo,
2019 Conference Player of the Year, did it with 11 goals. He also helped spearhead the Panther's 3-2 comeback victory against Kingsborough Community College, assisting on
Mohammed Alghanimi's (Brooklyn, New York) equalizer in the 53rd minute.
Diallo also added an insurance goal in the Panther's 3-1 victory over KCC last Thursday to help BMCC capture their first Conference Regular Season Title since 2018. He also scored in a 4-2 win over Orange County Community College to open the week, and he has now recorded a goal in six straight contests. He leads the team with 27 points and has helped the offense score three or more goals in each contest during their six-game winning streak.
The Panthers will hope three times is a charm as they will face another grueling test against the Wave in the 2023 Region XV Quarterfinals on Thursday, October 19, at 1 p.m. at Pier 40. BMCC is the fourth seed, and Kingsborough Community College is the fifth seed. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Soccer Schedule.
