New York, NY - The BMCC Panthers Men's Soccer team closed out the 2026 regular season in dramatic fashion, rallying from a halftime deficit to earn an impressive 3-2 victory over the No. 7-ranked Monroe University Express.
The highly anticipated match-up featured a back-and-forth battle throughout much of the first half, with both teams looking to gain the upper hand. BMCC finally broke through in the 43rd minute when Omar Sanyang (Brikama, Gambia) found the back of the net off an assist from Doro Niang (Dakar, Senegal) to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Sanyang ninth of the season, while Niang recorded his team-leading eighth assist.
However, the Panthers' lead would be short-lived. Monroe responded with two goals in a span of just 90 seconds, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.
At the break, Head Coach Modou Seck rallied his squad, setting the stage for a determined second-half response from the Panthers. BMCC came out with renewed energy and found the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Ibrahima Sylla (New York, New York) delivered a powerful strike past the Monroe goalkeeper, finishing off an assist from Sanyang to bring the Panthers level at 2-2. With momentum shifting in BMCC's favor, both teams battled through the final minutes in search of the decisive goal. The breakthrough finally came in the 88th minute when Jonathan Barreto (Sabaneta, Colombia) delivered a perfectly placed ball into the box, finding Sanyang in front of goal. Sanyang made no mistake, burying his second goal of the game and his team-leading 10th of the season to give the Panthers a thrilling 3-2 lead. The Panthers held on through the final moments to secure the victory and cap off the regular season with a statement win over one of the nation's top teams.
