Panthers Rally Past No. 6 Suffolk County in Thrilling Region XV Comeback
New York, New York - The BMCC Panthers traveled out to Long Island, NY, this past Saturday for a Region XV showdown with the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College, who entered the match ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA National Poll. From the opening whistle, the Panthers showed they were ready for the challenge, battling the nationally ranked Sharks to a scoreless first half. BMCC goalkeeper
Juan Moreno (Medellin, Colombia) came up big, stopping both shots that Suffolk put on goal to keep the match tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
The Sharks would strike first in the second half, but the Panthers refused to back down. In the 70th minute, BMCC found the equalizer when
Omar Sanyang (Brikama, Gambia) finished off a great pass from
Doro Niang (Dakar, Senegal), bringing the Panthers level at 1-1. With the match winding down, BMCC continued to push forward looking for the go-ahead goal. Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute, when freshman
Leonardo De Nobrega (New York, New York) delivered the game-winning goal, finding the back of the net off a perfectly timed assist from
Angel Munoz (New York, New York) to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. BMCC held on through the final minutes to secure a dramatic 2-1 Region XV victory over the No. 6-ranked Sharks.
The Panthers' comeback victory showcased their resilience, determination, and ability to battle until the final whistle against one of the nation's top-ranked teams.
