New York, New York – After leading the BMCC women's volleyball to a perfect 3-0 week and a program-record best-tied start of 8-2, Sophomore
Josanne Lewis (Rochester, Minnesota) and freshman
Emmanuella Aurel (New York, New York) received their third consecutive CUNYAC CC Weekly honor, with
Lewis receiving Conference Player of the Week and
Aurel grabbing Rookie of the Week accolades as announced by the conference yesterday.
Both players were major factors in helping the Panthers
end a 17-game losing streak to Queensborough Community College, defeating them for the first time since 2012 and the first time in the regular season since 2011 while ending the Tiger's unprecedented 55-match winning streak against CUNYAC competition.
Lewis and
Aurel showed out in the match where
Lewis spearheaded the Panther's offensive attack posting a double-double with a team-high 16 kills to go along with a team-best tied 13 digs on defense.
Aurel nailed the game-winning kill in the match, finishing with six total, and tied a team-best defensively with 13 digs.
Lewis followed up that performance with her second 20-plus kill effort on Thursday
at Hostos Community College, smashing a game-high 23 kills and a career-high .541 hitting percentage to go along with 11 digs. She recorded her eighth consecutive double-double over the weekend
against Orange County Community College, led with a team-high 12 kills to go along with 10 digs.
Aurel kept up her stellar play with a game-best 16 digs against
Hostos Community College as well to lead the BMCC defense and missed her second double-double of the season by one kill, uncorking nine in the match.
Aurel concluded the week with a team-high 16 digs and a career-high .833 hitting percentage to lead the Panther backline in a straight-set sweep of
Orange County Community College.
Lewis leads the Panthers with 155 kills and is third in the country with Five Kills Per Set. She is currently the seventh in single-season program history in kills with 155, surpassing
Sara Lazo's total of 140 set in 2017. She is tops on BMCC with eight double-doubles and double-digit kill performances with all eight in the last eight matches while hitting .300 or better in two of her three matches and posted a .320-hitting percentage total for the week (100TA-51K-19E).
Defensively, Lewis has also recorded eight straight double-digit dig games and is second on the team with 134 digs.
Aurel leads the Panthers with 152 digs and is second with 70 kills.
