BMCC Women's Volleyball Matches Best Start In Program History, Sweeps Orange County Community College On The Road

Middletown, New York – The BMCC women's volleyball team continued to rewrite the record books on Saturday afternoon, matching the best start in program history at 8-2 (8-0 Region XV) with a dominant straight-set victory 25-20, 25-16, 25-6 against Region 15 opponent Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York. The Panthers registered their school-record seventh straight victory while the Colts fell to 4-9 (4-8 Region XV) with the loss.

BMCC has equaled the program's best 10-match start at 8-2, set during the 2016 season. The Panthers are also a perfect 8-0 in Region XV for the first time in program history and surpassed the previous eight-match start of 6-2 set in 2016. 

Freshman Josanne Lewis (Rochester, Minnesota) spearheaded the Panther's offensive effort posting her eighth consecutive double-double, blasting a team-high 12 kills to go along with 10 digs. Lewis also hit .300 or better for the second straight match and has done it in four of her last six matches, posting a .389 hitting percentage and adding three service aces on offense. Sophomore Xheni Doci (Saluzzo, Italy) dished out a team-high 22 assists and recorded a team-best five service aces.

Freshman Emmanuella Aurel (New York, New York) held down the backline for the Panthers defensively, corralling a team-high 16 digs, while fellow underclassman Sarah Lee (Staten Island, New York) contributed 12 digs. 

The Panthers are back in the confines of BMCC Gymnasium for the next two matches beginning on Tuesday, October 4, when they look to keep their program record seven-game winning streak going against CUNYAC opponent Bronx Community College at 6 p.m. For more information, please visit the BMCC Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.

Notables:  

  • Josanne Lewis (Rochester, Minnesota) now leads the Panthers with 155 kills, and her total is the seventh most in a single season, surpassing Sara Lazo's total of 140 in 2017. She also is tops on BMCC with eight double-digit kill performances, with all eight in the last eight matches. Defensively, Lewis has also recorded eight straight double-digit dig games and is second on the team with 134 digs.
  • Xheni Doci (Saluzzo, Italy) leads the Panthers with 217 assists, surpassing Iris Miranda's total of 197 assists set during the 2016 season. She has a team-high eight double-digit assist performances, five 20-assist performances, and three 30-plus assist efforts with a career-high 38 assists against Dutchess Community College.
  • Doci also has placed a team-best 56 service aces with five or more in three straight contests with a game-high eight against Queensborough Community College earlier in the week. Her mark of 56 service aces surpasses Liz Estafanni's mark of 52 set in 2010.
  • Emmanuella Aurel (New York, New York) leads the Panthers with 144 digs and has posted four straight double-digit dig games. She has also is tops with 10 blocks on the team and is second with 67 kills with five or more in nine consecutive matches.
