New York, New York – From the opening serve of the 2022 season, something special has been brewing in Lower Manhattan.
With Borough of Manhattan Community College President Anthony E. Monroe in attendance, the BMCC women's volleyball team rewrote program history, quickly dispatching CUNYAC opponent Bronx Community College in straight sets 25-4, 25-2, 25-12 on Tuesday evening at BMCC Gymnasium. As a result, the Panthers are off to the best start in school history at 9-2 (5-0 CUNYAC), extending their program-record winning streak to eight matches, while the Broncos fall to 0-13 (0-7 CUNYAC) with the loss.
BMCC also remains a perfect 5-0 in conference and 9-0 in Region 15 play for the first time in school history.
On a record-setting night that set new program marks, Freshman Emmanuella Aurel (New York, New York) set a new individual one, dropping a single-game program record 23 service aces in the match. Aurel's 23 service aces surpass teammate Xheni Doci's (Saluzzo, Italy) mark of 21 service aces registered against the Broncos this season back on September 10. In addition, the Panthers recorded 30 or more service aces for the second time this season after placing 33 against Bronx Community College in the squad's first match early this year.
Doci, who also dished out a game-high 16 assists in the contest, registered six service aces in the match. Freshman Johana Boleaga Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) smashed a game-high five kills in the match, while classmates Cheyenne Gray-Taitt (Harlem, New York) and Aurel chipped in with four and three.
Aurel also led the Panther's backline with a game-best eight digs.
