New York, New York – The BMCC women's volleyball team won their program record sixth consecutive match on Thursday night, defeating CUNYAC opponent Hostos Community College in straight sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-16 at the Swamp in Bronx, New York. The victory improves the Panther's record to 7-2 (4-0 CUNYAC) while the Caimans fall to 5-8 (1-4 CUNYAC).
Sophomore Josanne Lewis (Rochester, Minnesota) put up her team-leading seventh straight double-double leading all swingers with a game-high 23 kills and a career-high .541 hitting percentage to go along with 11 digs. Classmate Xheni Doci (Saluzzo, Italy) dished out a game-high 30 assists and placed a team-best five service aces. Doci and freshman Jamielee Adorno (Bronx, New York) also chipped in on offense with two digs apiece.
Freshman Emmanuella Aurel (New York, New York) led the Panther's defense corralling a game-best 16 digs while missing her second double-double of the season by one kill, uncorking nine in the match. Fellow underclassman Sarah Lee (Staten Island, New York) chipped in on defense with 11 digs.
After three different lead changes and two ties, Johana Boleaga Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) cranked a kill to give the Panthers a 9-8 advantage. BMCC would stretch their lead to five, 17-12, then Hostos Community College would cut it down to three twice before the Panthers scored six of the final seven points to take the first set 25-17.
The Caimans grabbed the first two points of the second set before the Panthers rolled off a 9-3 run to lead 9-5. Hostos would record the following four points to tie it at nine on a Camila Lebron service ace. However, BMCC would grab control of the set from there, going on an 8-1 run courtesy of three service aces from Doci, two kills from Aurel, and another from Lewis to stretch the lead to 18-10 and cruised to a 25-15 second set victory.
The Panthers rolled in the final set using a 7-1 run to stretch a 3-2 lead to 10-3 and then stretching it to 10, 17-7 en route to a 25-16 victory and a second consecutive straight-set victory.
Jasmine Garcia led Hostos Community College on offense, recording a team-high five kills, while Ashley Cabral dished out a team-high 11 assists. Nicole Rosas led the defensive effort with a team-best 10 digs and helped on offense with four kills.
The Panthers have a chance to post their best start in program history in the final game of a three-game road trip against Region 15 opponent Orange County Community College on Saturday, October 1, at 1:15 p.m. in Middletown, New York.
