New York, New York – Episode 11 of "Inside The Lair" is now available on Youtube and IGTV!
This week, we welcome former BMCC Men's Soccer Player Lamarana Diallo (Ziguinchor, Senegal), a 2019-20 CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of The Year and a Conference Champion during the 2019 season. He also earned NJCAA All-Academic Third-Team honors.
The striker from Ziguinchor, Senegal, was an essential role player during his two seasons at BMCC. Diallo finished his Panther career with four career goals and nine career points in 15 career games, with his best performance coming against Bergen County Community College on Sept. 14, 2019, with two goals and an assist for five points in a decisive 5-0 victory. He was a member of the Panthers' 2019 CUNYAC Conference Championship team and was also a regular-season champion in 2018.
Off the field from the time he arrived on campus at Borough of Manhattan Community College in the Fall of 2018, Diallo made an immediate impact inside the classroom while exhibiting significant leadership on campus. He was exceptional in the classroom, maintaining a 3.64 cumulative grade point average and earning a spot on the Dean's list in all four of his semesters at BMCC, while also serving in the Student Government as an Association Senator and the President of Association of Students of African Descent.
Last May, Diallo received BMCC's Scholar Leader Award, which is handed out to students who balanced their lives inside the classroom and outside of it as major leaders on campus while maintaining academic excellence (GPA of 3.5 or higher). He was also recognized by The City University of New York Athletic Conference as the 2019-20 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, given out to the top male student-athlete at the community college level for their excellence in the classroom, while also earning NJCAA Academic Third-Team Honors.
Between racking up a plethora of academic awards and being a voice on campus for issues such as Climate Change (where he participated in a march at BMCC last year), he still finds the time to help others at BMCC and away from it. Diallo was a member of the CUNY Tutors Corps during the last two summers as a Math Tutor and Peer Mentor Supervisor while serving as a supplemental math instructor on campus for his fellow students at BMCC.
Diallo graduated from BMCC at the end of the Fall 2019 semester with an Associate of Science degree in Mathematics and will be attending John Jay College next year.
He talks with Sports Information Director John Kelly Jr. about his extraordinary journey to the United States from Senegal, the championship and family environment of the men's soccer program, his time as a leader on campus at BMCC, and his internship on Wall Street.
