Following an outstanding regular season during which both teams finished as runners-up in their respective brackets in the CUNYAC Tournament, the BMCC men's and women's basketball teams will look to keep it rolling as they enter the first round of the Region XV tournament this week. If either team can run the table in the regional tournament this weekend, they will earn a berth in the NJCAA tournament.
When the #3 seeded Lady Panthers host the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday, they will be taking the court against a familiar opponent, the LaGuardia Red Hawks. These teams will be squaring off against each other for the fourth time this season, after meeting twice in the regular season and again in the CUNYAC Semifinals. This has been a favorable matchup for BMCC, who has come out on top in each of the previous three meetings, winning by an average margin of 14 points per game.
The women's tournament will open on Tuesday at 7pm, with the higher seeds hosting the lower seeds. The #3 Lady Panthers will matchup against the #6 LaGuardia Red Hawks in BMCC gymnasium, during the game all BMCC second year players will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
The #5 seeded Panthers will have to wait until Friday for their opening round matchup against the Hostos Caimans. After falling to the Caimans twice in the regular season, BMCC bounced back with a 88-84 victory over Hostos in the CUNYAC tournament, and will have a chance to even the head-to-head record in their next matchup. The men's tournament is hosted by Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY. BMCC is set to tipoff at 1pm on Friday against the #4 Hostos Caimans.
