Men's Basketball By Dakota Olson (BMCC Sports Information)

Basketball is Back at BMCC

New York, NY  | The men's basketball season tips off this Thursday with a game against the Burlington County Barons right here in BMCC Gymnasium. Meanwhile the women's team will have to wait until November 10th to get their first taste of regular season action when they take on Kingsborough in their opener.

The men's team has looked promising in their scrimmages thus far, and the defending CUNYAC Champions currently sit just outside of the top 10 in the NJCAA Preseason poll. The Panthers will be led by All-American power forward Kenneth Coar, in his freshman season, Coar averaged 13.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. Coar will be joined by four other returners from 2014-15: two guards Jamel Harris and Dominek Tucker, as well as forwards Jonathan Jones and Patrick Johnson. The second year players are all prepared to contribute in big ways this season. Reigning Region XV Coach of the Year, Nolan Adams, is entering his third season with BMCC. This past season, Adams led the Panthers to a 27-4 record topped off with a conference championship, he will look to replicate his previous success with this year's team.

On the women's side, the Panthers are led by returners Ashley Duplan and Mildhreen Cacoque. In 13 games played last season, Duplan averaged 10 points and 4 boards while Cacoque averaged 6 points and 4 assists. Their roster will be bolstered by a number of recruits, including guard Kiara Atkins and forward Malaysia Morton, both impressed in their preseason scrimmages. The Panthers under the direction of first year head coach Ben Newberg who has high expectations for the young, but talented group.

Undoubtedly, the next few months will be an exciting time for both teams, so come out to BMCC Gymnasium to cheer on your Panthers as they begin their 2015-16 campaign. For a full schedule, click the tab at the top of the page, and stay tuned for stats and updates as the season gets underway.
