New York, NY Â |Â The men's basketball season tips off this Thursday with a game against the Burlington County Barons right here in BMCC Gymnasium. Meanwhile the women's team will have to wait until November 10
th to get their first taste of regular season action when they take on Kingsborough in their opener.
The men's team has looked promising in their scrimmages thus far, and the defending CUNYAC Champions currently sit
just outside of the top 10 in the NJCAA Preseason poll. The Panthers will be led by All-American power forward
Kenneth Coar, in his freshman season, Coar averaged 13.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. Coar will be joined by four other returners from 2014-15: two guards
Jamel Harris and
Dominek Tucker, as well as forwards
Jonathan Jones and
Patrick Johnson. The second year players are all prepared to contribute in big ways this season. Reigning Region XV Coach of the Year,
Nolan Adams, is entering his third season with BMCC. This past season, Adams led the Panthers to a 27-4 record topped off with a conference championship, he will look to replicate his previous success with this year's team.
On the women's side, the Panthers are led by returners
Ashley Duplan and
Mildhreen Cacoque. In 13 games played last season, Duplan averaged 10 points and 4 boards while Cacoque averaged 6 points and 4 assists. Their roster will be bolstered by a number of recruits, including guard
Kiara Atkins and forward
Malaysia Morton, both impressed in their preseason scrimmages. The Panthers under the direction of first year head coach
Ben Newberg who has high expectations for the young, but talented group.
