SELDEN ,NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College women's and men's basketball teams split a NJCAA Region XV doubleheader with Suffolk County Community College on Saturday afternoon on the road in Selden, NY. The Lady Panthers surrendered a 93-59 decision in the opener, while the national #7 Panthers earned their conference and regional leading 13th game of the season, 76-58.Â
Guard Luye Murphy led the Lady Panthers in the afternoon's first match, scoring 16 points and grabbing four boards and two steals. Freshman sensation Kristen Merrell potted 15 and added 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Ashley Duplan sunk four three-pointers and scored 13 points in her first game of the season.

Captain Joseph Ojo powered the men with 21 points and six assists in the men's first match of the new year. Forwards Jericho Cherisma and Kenneth Coar continued their near double-double-per-game pace with 13 points and 14 rebounds and 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively. In addition, both Cherisma and Coar recorded three blocks each.

Akeem Williams scored four of his own and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Lowell Stevens scored six points in his Panther debut.

The #7 Panthers are now 13-1 (5-0 CUNYAC) and remain atop the Region XV and CUNYAC standings.

Both the women and men return to action on Thursday, January 8 when they welcome LaGuardia Community College to Manhattan for 5:30 and 7:30 PM tip-offs.
