Cherisma Powers #7 BMCC Men Past Rockland

The forward scored 17 and grabbed nine rebounds in a 85-68 victory at home

NEW YORK, NY| The #7 Borough of Manhattan Community College men's basketball defeated NJCAA Region XV rival Rockland Community College 85-68 in Manhattan on Thursday night to earn their third win in as many games. With the victory, the Panthers improve to 13-3 in regional play and 16-3 overall.

Rockland falls to 9-11.

BMCC grabbed an early 15-8 lead less than six minutes into the first half before eventually building a 33-19 lead at 7:26. A 7-0 run by the Hawks over the next two minutes brought the game back to 33-26, but BMCC—who outscored Rockland 26-14 in the paint and 19-3 off the bench in the first—would eventually head into the break up 42-32.

The two sides traded points through the opening five minutes of the second, and the Hawks eventually trimmed BMCC's lead down to seven points. But that's as close as they'd come, as the Panthers began to pour it on near the ten minute mark. After leading by as much as 18 points, BMCC would go on to claim the 85-68 win.

Forward Jericho Cherisma posted a season- and career-best 17 points in addition to grabbing nine boards and blocking two shots off the bench. The Brooklyn, NY native outscored the Rockland bench 17-14.

Guards Jamel Harris and Joseph Ojo each potted 13 points and power forward Kenneth Coar scored eight points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

The Panthers outshot Rockland from the floor by a large margin (50.%-30.0%) in addition to out-rebounding the guests 58-39. BMCC also dominated the paint, outscoring the Hawks 48-26.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, January 24 when they and the women travel to Poughkeepsie, NY to take on Dutchess Community College. The women open at 12:00 PM and the men close out the afternoon with a 2:00 PM tip.
