NEW YORK, NY|
The Borough of Manhattan Community College women's and men's basketball team's both defeated their Kingsborough Community College counterparts in a CUNYAC doubleheader on Tuesday night on home court in Manhattan. Both sides claimed back-to-back victories for the first time since the opening two games of the season in November, with them women winning 60-48 and the men 79-63.

After snapping a ten-game losing streak on Thursday against Passaic Community College, the women (4-10, 2-5 CUNYAC) jumped out to an early 16-8 lead against the Wave but saw it erased after an 11-3 run by the visitors to draw the score back to 19 at 5:27 of the first. BMCC responded by scoring the next 10 points to go up 29-19 with 3:20 left before cruising into halftime up 29-22.

The Lady panthers padded their lead after scoring the first seven points of the second frame, but Kingsborough would not go away quietly and the guests outscored BMCC 18-6 from 17:12 to 10:05 to cut the hosts' lead to just two points (42-40).

BMCC would eventually prove too potent an opponent for the Wave and would go on to reestablish their 14-point lead (60-46) with under two minutes to play before claiming the 60-48 victory.

Freshman Kristen Merrell again led the Lady Panthers, scoring 24 points and adding 14 rebounds, six assists and five steals. Guard Ashley Duplan found open space often and scored a season-best 14 points. Forward Alexis Hart scored nine and grabbed eight rebounds.

Despite being out-rebounded (46-43), BMCC out-shot the guests 40.0%-28.2%. Kwana Brunson also blocked more shots than Kingsborough as a whole, who in fact had zero.

In the nightcap the men (15-2, 7-0 CUNYAC) looked to continue their undefeated conference campaign and earn their 15th win of the season against a scrappy Kingsborough side.

The two teams traded points for the first 14 minutes of the contest, and after seeing the score tied at 25 at 6:26, the Panthers scored the next eight before heading into halftime up 15 (43-28).

Kingsborough rallied with an 11-4 run to start the second to bring the score back to 47-38, and at 12:31 with the score at 51-45 the Wave would be as close to climbing back into the lead as they would be for the rest of the match. The Panthers would go back up 15 (65-55) at 7:33 and eventually 17 at 1:35 (77-60) en route to an inevitable 79-63 win.

Captain Joseph Ojo scored a team-high 20 points that was only bested by Joshua Perez's 22 for Kingsborough. Center Akeem Williams notched a double-double scoring 11 and grabbing 13 rebounds. Elijah Bryant potted 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists.

Three Kingsborough players fouled out of the game, meanwhile Kenneth Coar was the only ejected player for the Panthers.

Neither team shot well from the charity stride, although BMCC held the 59.5%-54.5% advantage. BMCC, the third-best rebounding team in the country, held a steep advantage on the boards (54-37) in addition to blocking more shots (7-4).

The men will return to action on Thursday, January 22 when they welcome regional rival Rockland Community College to Manhattan for a 7:00 PM contest. Both the women and men will be in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, January 24 for a regional doubleheader with Dutchess Community College. The women play at 12:00 PM, the men at 2:00 PM.
