Men’s and Women’s Basketball Top Wave in CUNYAC Opener

Ken Coar Jr. scored 17 and Kristen Merrell netted 24

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROOKLYN, NY| The Borough of Manhattan men's and women's basketball teams both defeated their Kingsborough Community College counterparts Tuesday evening to improve to 4-0 and 2-0, respectively. The Lady Panthers erased a ten-point first-half deficit to win 62-59. The men also trailed for most of their match, but regrouped and claimed a 80-71 victory.

Kristen Merrell again led the way for the women, scoring 24 points and adding 10 rebounds and six assists. Kwana Brunson netted six points of her own and grabbed 10 rebounds in addition to recording four blocks. Captain Luye Murphy scored 11.

Ken Coar Jr. had a team-high 17 points and three blocks for the men in the second match. The power forward grabbed seven boards as well. Justin Manon came up huge off the bench, offering 16 points and three assists. Jerry Cherisma also provided bench support with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Both the men and women are back in action Thursday night when Orange County Community College arrives in New York, NY for a double-header. The Lady Panthers are set to tip-off at 5:30 PM and the men will start at roughly 7:30 PM.
