#1 Queensborough Tigers 3, #4 BMCC Panthers 0Â
The #1 Queensborough Tigers took down the #4 BMCC Panthers 3-0 during the first semifinal of the CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Women's Volleyball Championship. The Tigers came into the game looking to return the the Championship Final for the fourth consecutive year under Head Coach Jason Demas. BMCC was looking to reach the final for the first time since 2010.
Short runs to begin the game left Queensborough leading 10-8 early in the first set. Then, rookie Raluca Mosora came to serve and struck two aces in the midst of a 5-point run for the Tigers. A few short runs would give Queensborough set one 25-17.
With a combination of strong play and the Panthers' errors, the Tigers were able to begin the second set on a 5-1 run to increase their momentum. The set quickly seemed to be the Tigers' as they went up 12-6. Soon after that point, Queensborough went on a 12-2 run that finished the set 25-12 and gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
The third set was close until a 7-1 run took away the Panthers hope of an upset with a 12-5 lead. BMCC gained back ground briefly before Queensborough finished the set on a 9-1 run to take the set 25-11 and advance to the final 3-0.
In the end, the Tigers were too much for the Panthers as the match ended 25-17, 25-12, 25-11. The Panthers were led by Emelyn Franco with four kills, two serving aces, and 18 digs.
Queensborough was lead by Raluca Mosora with 10 assists, five serving aces, and five digs. Sabrina Rodriguez added 10 kills and Carmen Clavijo hit .364.
