New York, New York – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its all-star awards and team yesterday as voted upon by the league's head coaches. For the fourth straight season and the sixth time in program history, the BMCC Baseball team had two players receive CUNYAC Community College All-Star accolades as BMCC baseball sophomore
Peter Marino (New York, New York) and Nassaiah Flores (Bronx, NY) both earned the honor for the first time in their careers. Fellow upperclassman Jeffrey Roldan (New York, New York) received the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award.
Marino was the Panthers' go-to player on the mound this season, posting a
team-leading and season-best 29 strikeouts, 19 of them during the Panthers' two victories on the season. The New York, New York native also posted
a career-high 10 strikeouts during a 9-4 victory over Bronx Community College on April 6, 2024, which was the program's
first double-digit strikeout effort for the first time since the 2018 season, earning him
CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Marino also finished his
career third all-time with 46 career strikeouts.
Marino also was an impact player on offense for the Panthers, registering a team-high and season-best 22 steals, which were third-most in a single season, surpassing his former teammate Frank Reyes's mark of
20 steals from 2023. The sophomore led the Panthers with six multi-steal games, tying a career-best with three steals in three games this season and stealing a base in 13 of the 23 contests he played this season. Marino moved alone into third all-time in career steals with 30 over the weekend, surpassing Frank Reyes's mark of
29 career steals and posting eight career multi-steal games.
Marino also led the Panthers with a team-best 22 runs scored and tied for a team-high with 20 hits while drawing a team-leading 15 walks during the 2024 season. Marino also ranked second in multi-hit games with four and doubles with three. The sophomore also concluded his career, ranking in the top ten in three other offensive categories with 33 career hits and five career doubles, which are eighth all-time. Marino registered 16 career RBIs, tied for 10th all-time, and posted seven career multi-hit games during his two seasons with the Panthers.
Marino also got it done in the field on defense for BMCC, posting a season-best 59 putouts, which were also second on the team and finished with 87 career putouts and a career .989 career fielding percentage.
Flores had a strong freshman campaign, leading the Panthers with 14 RBIs and two triples while tying for the team-high in home runs with two. The Bronx, New York native was tops on the team with five multi-RBI games with a season-high three RBIs against Queensborough Community College on April 1, 2024, and Suffolk Community College on April 16, 2024, while being second in slugging percentage (.453) and third in runs scored (11).
Flores also was huge on defense for the Panthers, ranking third in putouts with 48.
Roldan was a key leader in the dugout and a staple to the Panthers program over the past two seasons, reaching base a season-high 13 straight times during the 2024 season while tying for second on the team with three doubles and two multi-RBI games while also being tied for third in walks with 12.
Roldan finished in the top five overall in career strikeouts with 41, matching his career-best total of five strikeouts against Bronx Community College on April 6, 2024. The New York, New York native ended his time with the Panthers baseball program with 27 career hits and 14 career RBIs, including six career multi-hit games and four career multi-RBI games.
