Four Of A Kind! Emily Kennedy Picks Up Fourth-Straight CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Honor; Ysaia Marte Receives Rookie Of Week Accolades For The Fourth Time

New York, New York – BMCC women's and men's basketball collected CUNYAC CC weekly awards in fours, with freshman Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) receiving CUNYAC CC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the fourth straight week while freshman Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) received Rookie of the week accolades for the fourth time this season. Both were honored after their performances for the Panthers a week ago.
 
Kennedy continues to be the Panther's best player during the second half of the season, matching a career-high with 30 points and registering her fourth double-double in her last five games with a game-high 11 rebounds during BMCC's only game against nationally-ranked No. 8 Hostos Community College
 
Marte spearheaded the Panther's offensive and defensive attack during their three contests last week, averaging 19 points per game, four steals per game, and 3.3 rebounds per game. The Bronx, New York native led the BMCC offensive and defense in back-to-back games registering a game-high and matching his career high with 23 points to go along with a team-best five steals against Hostos C.C. then followed it up two nights later on the road at Bronx Community College with a game-high 19 points, 10 coming in the first half, and five steals to lead the Panthers to seven conference wins for the first time since the 2018-19 season during an 80-51 rout.
 
The team captain had 15 points against No. 5 Brookdale C.C. on the road and dished out a team-high five assists while tying for a team-best in steals with two.
 
Kennedy leads the Panthers in scoring average with 20.3 points per game which is also 8th in the country, and tops in rebounding average with 8.6 boards per game while also being tied first in steals with 40. The Brooklyn, New York native is also second in assists with 29.  
 
The Benjamin Banneker Academy product has been outstanding during the second half of the season for the BMCC, with two 30-point scoring efforts in the last two weeks. She also has put up six games with 20 points or more in all eight contests in 2023 and is averaging 23.7 points per game in all of them.
 
Marte leads the Panthers in scoring with 261 points and 12.4 points per game while also leading BMCC in steals with 50.
 
He has also scored in double-figures 12 straight times dating back to 2022 and has 10 in all of BMCC's contests during the 2023 calendar year.
