Charlotte, North Carolina – Freshman forward
Emily Kennedy's (Brooklyn, New York) start to the second half of the season has been nothing short of outstanding. After last week's dominating performance, which featured two straight double-doubles and 23.5 points per game and 13.5 rebounds per game average, the NJCAA took notice naming her NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Kennedy becomes the first player this season, and in almost a decade in the Panthers women's basketball program to receive the honor.
Tuesday night continues to be the Brooklyn, New York native's time to shine as she set a new career-high last night for the third straight week, with
a career and game-best 30 points on 14-of-31 shooting, which was also another new career-mark in a 64-33 victory over Queensborough Community College. Kennedy also registered her third consecutive double-double, ripping down 12 rebounds while handing out eight assists, another personal best to go along with four steals.
The
three-time CUNYAC CC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week is the first Panthers women's basketball player in five seasons to record a 30-point scoring performance since Nikola Zilakova, the school's third all-time program leader in scoring, did it against Queensborough Community College on November 21, 2017.
Kennedy collected the first double-double of her career with a game-best 29-point effort, with 11 in the first quarter and 12 in the fourth quarter to hold off a late Laguardia C.C. surge 49-31 to pick up their third conference victory.
She also ripped down a career and game-high 14 rebounds while also recording career highs in shooting, going a career-best 9-for-25 from the field and 88.9% from the charity stripe (8-9 FT). In the Panther's tough loss to Nassau C.C. 97-38, Kennedy recorded her second double-double of the week, dropping a team-high 18 points and missing her career-high for rebounds from Tuesday by one with 13, also team-best.
The Benjamin Banneker Academy product is red hot to start the back part of the BMCC schedule with four 20-point plus efforts in her first six contests and averaging 23.2 points per game. Kennedy leads the Panthers in
scoring average with 19.1 points per game which
is also tied for 13th in the country while also
being tied first in steals with 35. Kennedy also
is second in points (172), rebounding average (8.3), and assists (24).
The Panthers look for back-to-back wins this Saturday, February 4, at noon against Region 15 opponent Suffolk Community College at BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the
