New York, New York - The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its award winners for the previous week of action today, Wednesday, October 12. Two BMCC women's volleyball players swept the CC Weekly Honors for the fourth straight week. Freshman setter Emmanuella Aurel (New York, New York) received her fourth consecutive CUNYAC CC honor garnering her first Player of the Week selection, and freshman libero Sarah Lee (Staten Island, New York) grabbed Rookie of the week accolades for the first time in her career.
Aurel served as a jack of all trades leading the Panthers to a 3-2 record this past week. She was instrumental in victories over CUNYAC opponent Bronx C.C. in straight sets and over the weekend at BMCC's second double dual sweeping conference opponent HostosC.C. and Region 15 opponent Nassau Community College in four sets.
Aurel concluded the week dominating the backline with 93 digs and seven blocks (six solo blocks and block assist) while contributing 29 service aces, 35 assists, and 23 kills on offense.
Aurel went off during the first match of the week against CUNYAC opponent Bronx C.C., putting up a single-game program record of 23 service aces, 12 of them in the first set, including 10 straight in a three-set defeat of the Broncos. She also led the Panther's backline with a game-best eight digs against the Broncos and a team-high eight against Region 15 top seed Monroe-Bronx while leading BMCC in the match with three solo blocks.
With top setter Xheni Doci (Saluzzo, Italy) out of the lineup on Thursday night on Thursday night against FIT, Aurel stepped up to the plate as the quarterback of the Panther's offensive attack in a five-set loss registering
her second double-double of the season by dishing out a career and team-high 23 assists and corralling 20 digs.
Over the weekend, she was instrumental to the Panther's backline registering a game-best 30 digs to go along with a game-high .364 hitting percentage (7K-3E-11TA) in the first match against Hostos C.C. and following that up with a team-best eight kills and four service aces to go along with a team-high 27 digs.
Aurel is the team leader with 252 digs and 19 blocks, while she is second in Kills with 101 kills, 81 assists, and 46 service aces. Her 252 digs are the third most in a single-season passing Jennifer Santos's mark of 204 in 2014.
During their five matches last week, Lee was a major stalwart for the Panthers on defense. She rose to the take on Thursday in a five-set thriller against FIT with top setter Doci out of the lineup against Fashion Institute of Technology. Lee stepped up massively with Aurel having to play setter for the night, corralling a career and game-high 27 digs and dishing out three assists. Lee grabbed 19 digs and 23 digs in the double dual sweep for the Panthers and now has recorded two 20-dig games in her last four matches.
She is third on the team with 205 digs which are for fifth most in a single season.
