Even in the midst of a global pandemic and the adjustment to taking courses virtually, the student-athletes of the City University of New York Athletic Conference remained focused on their academic endeavors.
Â
On May 19, the CUNYAC held its first ever Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Ceremony over Zoom. The event was in place of the annual in-person awards banquet that was scheduled to take place at Terrace on the Park. The annual event is typically a night of tribute to our superb student-athletes, coaches, administrators and supporters.
Â
The program began with opening remarks from Executive Director,
Zak Ivkovic, followed by a presentation of CUNYAC's Appreciation Award and Friend of CUNY Award from CUNYAC SAAC President,
Julia Cuttone. This year's recipients included
Carol Kashow, former Director of Athletics at John Jay College, and
Richard White, CUNY's first ever Vice Chancellor for Risk, Audit and Compliance.
Â
The ceremony continued with the announcement of 182 graduating seniors who earned a spot on the 2020-21 Vice Chancellor Honor, presented by
Pete Ginnegar of Bob McCloskey Insurance, a long-standing sponsor of the event and partner of the conference.
Â
Executive Vice Chancellor
Hector Batista provided remarks to the attendees, with the evening concluding with the acknowledgement of our 65 Scholar-Athletes of the Year, presented by Commissioner Ivkovic and CUNYAC Associate Director for Operations,
Kim Santoiemma.

AWARD WINNERSÂ
Leading up to the event, our award winners were revealed individually on the Conference's website and social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter (@CUNYAC) and Instagram (@CUNYAC).
Â
Although we were disappointed in not being able to celebrate in-person, CUNYAC did not want to miss the opportunity to recognize our exceptional graduating student-athletes, who represent the very best CUNY has to offer in quality academics and athletics.
Â
Congratulations to all the honorees and student-athletes on another outstanding academic year. We hope you have a safe summer, and we wish you the very best of luck in all of your future endeavors. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to the CUNY Athletic Conference.
