Women’s Soccer Defeated By Queensborough Community College, 4-2, At Home

New York, New York - The BMCC women's soccer team dropped their home finale to Queensborough Community College, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon at Pier 40. The Panthers fell to 0-3 (0-2 Region XV), while the Tigers picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-1 (1-1 Region XV).

The Panthers got out of the gate quickly as freshman Nene Balde (Conakry, Guinea) grabbed the ball to the right of the goal area and sent a beautiful cross onto the left foot of classmate Emily Ramon (New York, New York), who tapped it into the empty left pocket of the net in the fifth minute for her team-leading third marker of the season making it 1-0. The Tigers responded six minutes later in the 11th minute as Ashley Leon caught the BMCC defense napping and fed Stephanie Perez, who uncorked a monster 40-yard blast over the head of BMCC freshman goalie Jennifer Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) to tie it at one.

Queensborough Community College would grab the lead in the 19th minute as Natasha Carvajal took advantage of a BMCC defensive miscommunication and blasted a right-footed shot into the low right pocket of the net to make it 2-1. The Tigers extended their advantage to two in the 34th minute when Carvajal stole the ball inside the 18 and served it up onto the right foot of Vallery Chamba, who buried it into the low left pocket of the net to make it 3-1. The score would remain that way going into the halftime break, with the Tigers up 3-1.

The Panthers got within one in the second half in the 57th minute as sophomore Nathali Ocampo-Lopez (Quimbaya, Colombia) started a nice rush up the right wing, putting a beautiful through ball onto the streaking Balde who worked off two defenders and unloaded a right-footed roller into the low right pocket of the net to make it 3-2. The Tigers pulled away with an insurance goal in the 66th minute as Perez picked up her second of the afternoon to make it 4-2, which would stand until the final whistle, giving Queensborough the victory.

Reyes took the loss for the Panthers and made five stops in the contest.

The Panthers will look for their first win of the 2024 season on the road this Saturday, October 5, against NJCAA Division III No. 4 nationally ranked Suffolk County Community College at noon in Selden, New York. For more information, visit the BMCC Women's Soccer Schedule Page.
