Bayside, New York - The BMCC women's soccer team squandered a 2-0 halftime lead as Queensborough Community College's Stephanie Perez buried four second-half goals to spearhead the Tiger's 4-2 comeback victory in Region 15 action on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers fall to 0-5 (0-4 Region 15), while the Tigers improve to 2-2 (2-2 Region XV).
The Panthers got right to work on offense as freshman Emily Ramon (New York, New York) netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the eighth minute from sophomore Nathali Ocampo-Lopez (Quimbaya, Colombia) to make it 1-0. Classmate Nene Balde (Conakry, Guinea) would extend the advantage to two goals, 2-0, in the 21st minute after fellow underclassmen Jennifer Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) fed her for her second marker of the season. The goals were BMCC's only shots of the first half as they were outshot by Queensborough Community College 10-2.
The story was all about an outstanding individual effort from Stephanie Perez, who began her four-goal second-half eruption a minute into it, cutting the Panther lead to one, 2-1, on an unassisted goal in the 46th minute then giving the knotting it up at two four minutes later in the 50th minute off a nice pass from Ashley Puma. Natasha Carvajal would find the foot of Perez for the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute to make it 3-2, then Perez added an unassisted marker to provide insurance in the 67th minute to make it 4-2 and give Queensborough to come from behind victory.
The Panthers were outshot 23-8 overall in the match.
Reyes registered her fourth double-digit save performance of the season, stopping 15 shots in the loss. Kiara Jimenez Diaz and Cristelle Rocco both played 45 minutes each, with Diaz making seven saves and Rocco denying five for the Tigers.
The Panthers conclude their season next Tuesday, October 15, on the road against Union County College at 4:30 p.m. in Cranford, New Jersey. For more information, visit the BMCC Women's Soccer Schedule. Â
