Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Dutchess

The Panthers are undefeated in their last six

Box Score NEW YORK, NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College men's soccer team defeated Dutchess Community College 5-0 Wednesday night at Pier 40 in New York, NY. With the win, the Panthers extend their unbeaten streak to six games and improve to 6-1-1 on the season.

BMCC carried the play from the outset, generating nine shots in the first half—two of which beat Dutchess keeper Mohamed Kieta, who was stellar, making 10 saves despite the loss.

Midfielder Ryo Koiso opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, when he took a feed from forward John Castellanos down the right flank and beat Kieta opposite side. Forwards Jonathan Lopez and Itamar Pereira hooked up for the second goal of the evening, which came in the 31st minute, when Lopez's clever back-heel just outside the box sprung Pereira cutting to the net. The senior easily slid the ball past the keeper for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Midfielder Abdul Muftau banged in his third goal of the year when his 60th minute brace from outside the box found the back of the net. Lopez found his way onto the scoresheet again in the77th minute, when he curled an attempt from the left side into the top corner for his fifth tally in 2014. Midfielder William Grajales wrapped up the scoring in the 89th minute when he too scored his fifth goal of the season.

Keeper Melvin Lopez extended his shutout streak to 200 minutes after his second consecutive cleansheet. The freshman made five saves and was active in the box.
Up next for BMCC is Westchester Community College, whom the Panthers welcome to Pier 40 on Saturday, October 11 for a 5:45 PM kickoff.
