New York, New York – After etching his name into the BMCC Baseball record books during his two seasons for the Panthers, former player
Peter Marino (New York, New York) will continue his collegiate and academic career at Baruch College. Baruch College is an NCAA Division III program and a member of The City of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
Marino was the Panther's ace on the mound during the 2024 season, posting a team-leading and season-best 29 strikeouts, 19 of them during BMCC's only two victories on the season. The New York, New York native also posted the program's first double-digit strikeout effort for the first time since the 2018 season, with a career-high 10 strikeouts during a 9-4 victory over Bronx Community College on April 6, 2024. The performance also earned him CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week accolades for the first time in his career. Marino also finished his career third all-time with 46 career strikeouts.
Marino also got it done on offense for the Panthers, registering a team-high and season-best 22 steals, which were third-most in a single season, surpassing his former teammate Frank Reyes's mark of
20 steals from 2023. The sophomore led the Panthers with six multi-steal games, tying a career-best with three steals in three games this season and stealing a base in 13 of the 23 contests he played this season. Marino moved alone into third all-time in career steals with 30, surpassing Frank Reyes's mark of
29 career steals and posting eight career multi-steal games.
Marino also led his squad with a team-best 22 runs scored and tied for a team-high with 20 hits while drawing a team-leading 15 walks during the 2024 season. Marino also ranked second in multi-hit games with four and doubles with three. The sophomore also concluded his career, ranking in the top ten in three other offensive categories with 33 career hits and five career doubles, which are eighth all-time. Marino registered 16 career RBIs, tied for 10th all-time, and posted seven career multi-hit games during his two seasons with the Panthers.
Marino, a
2023-24 Academic All-Region 15 and
CUNYAC Winter/Spring Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll honoree, also got it done in the field on defense for BMCC, posting a season-best
59 putouts, which were also second on the team and finished with 87 career putouts and a career .989 career fielding percentage.
