BMCC Ranked No. 5 In The USTFCCCA Northeast Week 5 Regional Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Index

New Orleans, Louisiana- After breaking into the NJCAA Division III USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Northeast Regional Track and Field Index last week for the first time in program history, the BMCC men's outdoor track and field program remained at No. 5 in the Week 5 poll.

The Panthers are one of eight Region 15 men's track and field teams in the Northeast Track and Field Index. Suffolk Community College came in at the top spot with 1,190.61 points, while Queensborough Community College and Nassau Community College were ranked ahead of BMCC in third and fourth with 634.13 points and 512.01 points. The Panthers have 278.50 points in the fifth spot, while SUNY Sullivan is in sixth, and Kingsborough Community College has moved up to seventh. The Fashion Institute Of Technology and Hostos were ranked eighth and ninth in the poll.

The Panthers have started their inaugural season 2024 with authority. Freshman Tatenda Chikanyairo (Fort Lee, New Jersey) became the first individual runner in school history to qualify for the NJCAA Div. III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 10,000 meters, beating the qualifying standard of 38:26.71 by 24 seconds at the Queensborough Relays with a time of 37:42.54

Two weeks later, the Panthers made history again as their 4x100 relay team of Christian Davis (Queens, New York), Kwame Brempong (Brooklyn, New York)Dontate Creedland (Brooklyn, New York), and Joshua Germain (Brooklyn, New York) became the first team in program history to qualify for nationals. The squad finished with a time of 47.01, surpassing the qualifying standard for the event of 48.77 by a second and posting a seventh-place finish out of a competitive field of ten teams.

The Panthers men's sprint medley team of Emmanuel Agyei (Brooklyn, New York), DavisDuffy, and Germain also made headlines in the Panther's first meet of the season at the Queensborough Relays, capturing first place in the event with a time of 4:06.58. Germain, who anchored the unit, made up a ton of ground down the stretch to pass CCNY's Gian-Carlo Riehl for victory.

The Panthers have also gotten strong outings from Michael Sing (Levittown, New York) and Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York), who have posted top-ten finishes in the Panthers' first two meets. Sing and Marte both won their sections in the 400-meter hurdles and 400-meters with times of 1:10.30 and 55.69 and finished fourth overall at the Queensborough RelaysSing would also make it back-to-back top-ten finishes, clocking in at 20.09 in the men's 110-meter hurdles at the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational.

BMCC's men's 4x400 relay teams also made some noise, finishing sixth and ninth out of 12 teams at the Coach Omeltchenko InvitationalAgyei, Marte, Davis, and Germain crossed the tape in sixth with a time of 3:42.59, while the quartet of Trent Santoro (Queens, New York)Charlie Hall (New York, New York)Duffy, and Sing finished ninth with a time of 3:58.91.

Duffy also posted a personal best mark of 5.64m and finished fifth out of 19 competitors in the high jump at the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational.
