Kings Park, New York - The BMCC men's and women's cross country team showed out at the 2024 Region 15 Championships at the St. Joseph's Cross Country Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, New York. Freshmen William Fernandez (New York, New York) and Demid Shcheunikov (Brooklyn, New York) and sophomore Lea Reimer (Paderborn, Germany) picked up medals on Saturday morning for finishing in the top seven among Region 15 competitors in the men's 8k and women's 5k. Fernandez crossed the finish line in third, while Reimer and Shcheunikov finished fourth and seventh. The Region medals are the first for Fernandez and Shcheunikov, while Reimer picks up the second medal of her career.
Fernandez spearheaded the Panthers men's program's effort, finishing 22nd overall out of 107 competitors from NCAA and two-year institutions and third amongst Region competition with a time of 31:17.4. Shcheunikov crossed the finish line with a time of 34:23.6 and finished seventh overall amongst Region 15 runners. Classmates Tchaas Mandulo (Brooklyn, New York) finished with a time of 44:55.1. Dalton Ligon (New York, New York) posted a new personal record crossing the finish line with a time of 45:21.7. Freshman Hassani Bangurah (Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania) also came across with a time of 45:21.7.
Reimer finished 14th overall out of 98 runners from NCAA and two-year institutions and fourth among NJCAA Division III runners with a time of 23:15.9. Freshman Ashley Goris Rosado (New York, New York) recorded a new personal record crossing the finish line with a time of 31:59.3.
