Bronx, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team earned a hard-earned victory over Region 15 foe Hostos Community College in five sets (25-20, 15-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12) on Tuesday evening at the Swamp. The Panthers improved to 7-9 (5-9 Region XV), ending their six-game losing streak, while the Caimans fell to 2-14 (2-14 Region XV).
The Panther's offense smashed 39 kills in the match, their second-biggest total of the season. Sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti)Â spearheaded the BMCC offense with her second straight double-digit kill game and team-leading third of the season with a game-high 13 kills. Freshman Kavana Liburd (Queens, New York) registered her second straight 30-assist game, dishing out a career and game-best 37 assists, while classmate Ishinay Lennon (Bronx, New York) placed a game-high nine service aces in the match. Lennon also contributed on offense with a career-high nine kills, while classmate Jaylynn Mateo (Brooklyn, New York) also had nine in the match.
Mateo and Devon Vazquez (New York, New York) led the BMCC defense with a team-high eight digs each, while Aurel and Zoe Gomez (Brooklyn, New York) both had a team-best one solo block each.
Hostos Community College had two players with double-digit kill efforts and one post a double-double. Natalie Mora uncorked a team-high 12 kills, while Samantha Colon smacked 11 kills of her own. Alyson Camejo recorded a double-double with a team-best 27 assists and contributed 13 digs. Mariali Sosa led the Caimans on defense with 21 digs, while Nyla Harris blasted a game-high 12 solo blocks.
The Panthers host Monroe-Bronx and NJCAA Division III No. 12 nationally ranked Nassau Community College in their final home Region 15 double dual of the season on Saturday, October 19, at noon and 2 p.m. at BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the BMCC Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
