Women’s Volleyball Suffers Two Losses In Region 15 Double Dual On Saturday

New York, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team was swept in straight sets in their final home double dual of the season by Monroe University-Bronx (17-25, 24-26,15-25) and NJCAA Division III No. 12 ranked Nassau Community College (6-25,18-25,19-25) on Saturday afternoon at BMCC Gymnasium. The Panthers dropped to 7-11 (5-11 Region XV).

The Express and the Lions won both of their matches on the afternoon, with Monroe University-Bronx moved to 13-5 (9-2 Region XV) on the season, while Nassau Community College remained undefeated at 14-0 (12-0 Region XV).

Sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) led the Panther's offense in the first match with a team-high six kills, while freshman Kavana Liburd (Queens, New York) dished out a team-best 11 assists. Liburd also joined her classmates Ishinay Lennon (Bronx, New York) and Devon Vazquez (New York, New York), who posted a team-high two services each.

After Monroe University-Bronx took the first set 25-17, BMCC gave them all they could handle in the second set, scoring the first five points and building an 8-2 lead. The Panthers would record five straight points, taking the lead 16-15 on an Express attack error and stretching the advantage to three, 18-15 on an Aurel service ace and another Express attack error. After Monroe University-Bronx went on a 5-1 run to lead 20-17, BMCC scored four of the next five points to tie it at 21. After the Express took the lead back 22-21, the Panthers scored three straight points, tying it at 22 on an Aurel kill and stretching it to a two-point lead, 24-22 on an Express attack error. The Express would close the second set out on a 4-0 run to win it 26-24 on a kill by Nisa Llanos.

The Express carried that momentum into the third set, easily winning 25-15 to take the match.
