Panthers Swept In Double Dual By Westchester And Rockland, Liburd And Aurel Post New Career Highs

Suffern, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by Westchester Community College and in four sets by Rockland Community College (26-24, 17-25, 21-25, 12-25) in a Region XV double dual on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers drop to 6-9 (4-9 Region XV) on the season.

Freshman Kavana Liburd (Queens, New York) registered her team-leading second double-double of the season, handing out a team-high 14 assists and leading the Panthers on defense with a team-best 13 digs. Classmate Jaylynn Mateo (Brooklyn, New York) was the top swinger in game one, smashing a team-high seven kills.

Sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) registered a team-high five solo blocks, while freshman Andrea Perez-Guzman (Brooklyn, New York) put up a new career-high with three solo blocks.

BMCC had two players post double-digit kill efforts in game two as Aurel put together her best offensive game as a Panther with a career and game-high 19 kills while hitting .810 (19K-2E-21TA) in the match. Mateo also contributed on offense smashing 10 kills. Liburd put up her team-leading third double-double and second of the day, dishing out a career and game-high 35 assists while recording a team-best 10 digs defensively.

Aurel led the Panthers with three solo blocks and just missed her second double-double of the season and sixth of her career by two digs with eight. Freshman Ishinay Lennon (Bronx, New York) also chipped in on defense with eight digs.

After building an eight-point advantage in the first set, 24-16, BMCC fought off an 8-0 run from Rockland Community College that tied it at 24 and scored the final two points to win it 26-24. Despite dropping the first set, the Hawks would build on their momentum to take three straight sets, 25-17, 25-21, and 25-12, to win the match three games to one.
