Milton, New York - BMCC men's cross country freshman William Fernandez (New York, New York) registered his first career top 10 finish on Sunday morning, finishing a career-best ninth out of 59 competitors in the 8K from NCAA and NJCAA institutions at the Mount Saint Mary College Invitational at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome. Classmate Demid Shcheunikov (Brooklyn, New York) also finished in the top 20 for the Panthers, coming across in a career-best 14th place while joining Fernandez as one of the top two finishers from Region 15.
The Panthers finished fifth out of eight teams at the meet with a score of 117 points. Fernandez crossed the finish line with a time of 32:11.9 while classmates Shcheunikov, Hassani Bangurah (Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania), Tchaas Mandulo (Brooklyn, New York), and Dalton Ligon (New York, New York) all recorded personal bests on the afternoon.
Shcheunikov crossed the finish line with a time of 34:07.4 and posted his best finish of the season in 14th, while Bangurah, Mandulo, and Ligon came in behind with times of 40:58.0, 42:42.8, and 46:38.3.
The Panthers suit up for the 2024 Region XV Championship next Saturday, October 19, at the St. Joseph's Cross Country Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, New York. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Cross Country Schedule Page.
