New York, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team was beaten in straight sets on Thursday night by the Fashion Institute of Technology on the road in Region 15 action. The Panthers drop to 6-7 (4-7 Region XV), while the Tiger's fifth straight victory improves their record to 9-2 (8-1 Region XV).
Sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) smashed a team-high nine kills, while freshman Kavana Liburd (Queens, New York) dished out a team-best 14 assists. Underclassmen Ishinay Lennon (Bronx, New York) placed a team-high two service aces in the match.
Aurel also led the Panthers on defense with a team-high three solo blocks, all of which came in the third set, while freshmen Zoe Gomez (Brooklyn, New York) contributed a career-high two solo blocks, and Jaylynn Mateo (Brooklyn, New York) chipped in on defense with a team-high four digs. Â
The Panthers played a competitive first set, registering 10 kills and hitting .333 (10K-5E-15TA), but they fell 25-18 in the end. The Tigers won the next two sets by scores of 25-9 and 25-13 to take the match.
