FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2022) – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced its annual 2022-23 Community College Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, and the BMCC women's basketball team were ranked third.
Hostos was picked as the favorite to win the 2022-23 CUNYAC Community College Women's Basketball preseason poll by the league's six head coaches, picking up five of the six possible first-place votes. The Caimans, who finished 17-6, made an appearance in the NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball National Championship Game while capturing a fifth consecutive CUNYAC Championship while reaching the NJCAA Region XV Championship finals.
The Caimans were ranked No. 2 nationally in the NJCAA Preseason Rankings after reaching the national championship game for the third time in four years.
Savannah Williams was named Preseason Player of the Year. The 2021-22 CUNYAC Rookie of the Year averaged 12.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game for the Hostos. She ranked 28th nationally in assists (82) and 31st in steals (64).
The Bronx, last year's runner-up, was picked second with 20 points and one first-place vote, followed by BMCC (16), Queensborough (13), Kingsborough (11), and LaGuardia.
The 2022-23 CUNYAC Community College Women's Basketball Championship is scheduled to begin with semifinal action on Tuesday, Feb. 15, followed by the final on Friday, Feb. 17. The semifinals and final will be played at BMCC Gymnasium.
The Panthers open their season tomorrow night at home, November 8, at 5:30 p.m. against UCONN Avery Point.
