PLAYOFF BOUND! Rocket League Punches Ticket To Postseason; FIFA 23, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Individual Players Clinch Playoff Spots

New York, New York - With the 2022 Fall Esports regular season coming to a close, the Borough of Manhattan Community College Esports program's Rocket League team and six individual competitors, including FIFA 23's Kevin Dominguez, Mario Kart's Jamelia Heyliger, and four individuals from the Super Smash Bros Ultimate squad punched their ticket to the postseason.  

Rocket League's Angel Castillo, Kevin Dominguez, Rodolfo Gonzalez, Joel Pedrosa, and Michael Sing finished their regular season on a high note, tied for second in Group 1 with a 6-1 overall record. The Panthers closed the season on a high note with back-to-back victories over SUNY Corning Community College and Monroe Community College.

The Panther's only loss was a 3-0 decision to the top team in the group Dallas College North Lake, back on October 31. BMCC has collected the #9-seed in the tourney and will face off against #24 Snow College on Monday, November 28, at 7:30 p.m. The winner will face the winner between #8 Iowa Central and #25 Fulton Montgomery Community College, which will occur right after at 8:30 p.m.

Dominguez will also compete in the individual category, qualifying for the postseason in FIFA 2023, wrapping up the regular season with a 5-2 record, and finishing third in Group 2. Dominguez draws the #13-seed and faces off against Hugo R. #20-seed Garden City Community College on Monday, November 28 at 7 p.m. The winner will play #4-seed two weeks later in the second round on Monday, December 5.

Mario Kart's Jamelia Heyliger went a perfect 7-0 for the 2022 regular season and was rewarded with a first-round bye. Heyliger will face the winner of the #8 and #25 Calhoun Community College matchup in the second round on December 1 at 8 p.m.

The Super Smash Brother's Ultimate individual competitors Terrence Sanchez, Cristian Yepez, Ryan Urena, and Gustavo Zamora Mendez all qualified for a postseason appearance. 

Sanchez and Urena were the top competitors in the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate category for the Borough of Manhattan Community College, completing the regular season with a 6-1 record in group 16 and group 26 with second-place finishes. Their only losses were to Jorge B. of Mott Community College and Harrison State's Jefferson K., the top players in each group. 

Yepez finished the regular season tied for second in the group with a 5-2 record, winners of three of the last four matches, while Zamora finished his season fourth in Group 23 with a 4-3 record.

Sanchez will battle #84 Trinity Valley Community College, Yepez faces #75 WVU Potomac State College, Urena takes on Yavapai College, and Zamora squares off against Harrisburg Area Community College.

The first-round matches will begin on November 30 at 6 p.m.
