BMCC Esports Week Five Recap: BMCC Call of Duty Cold War Moves Into A Tie For First Place; Rocket League Gridlocked In A Tie For Second, FIFA 21 Edges Irvine Valley College To Get Back To .500

New York, New York – The Borough of Manhattan Community College Esports programs continued to mark their territory during week five of NJCAA play. The Panther's Call of Duty squads used different paths to stake their claim as one and two atop their group standings and FIFA 21's Abu Sakil (Bronx, NY) bounced back with a victory to keep him in the playoff hunt, while another forfeit positioned the BMCC Rocket League team in a tie for second place.

The Panther's Call of Duty Cold War team Aisha Ellis (Queens, NY), Christian Vasquez (Brooklyn, NY), Jarrett Thomas (Brooklyn, NY), Jose Brazoban (Bronx, NY), Justin Jacobs (Queens, NY), Pablo Romero (Queens, NY), and Raheem Redway (Yonkers, NY) ended the week tied for the top spot with Carl Albert State College in their group after another dominant victory 2-0 against Madison College. Warzone's Gamalier Rodriguez (New York, NY), Ellis, Vasquez, and Redway defeated Nassau Community College via forfeit to remain tied for second in the Group 4 standings.

Both Units look to stay locked in position in the top three of their respective group standings Wednesday, March 17th at 7 p.m. against Iowa Central Community College, versus Hudson Valley Community College at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 19th, live on twitch by clicking here.   

After falling to one of the top players in his group, Abu Sakil (Bronx, NY) rebounded for a close 2-1 decision against Irvine Valley College on Tuesday evening. "My last game was tough, so I was trying to bounce back, and my victory in this game was a positive sign," said Sakil. 

Sakil looks to get over the .500 mark this Tuesday, March 16th, at 6 p.m. against Crowder College.

The Panther's Super Smash Brother's players and their Valorant unit competed in the only other live matches in a week of competition filled with forfeits. Jonathan Wegter (Brooklyn, NY) and Abel Perez (Bronx, NY) both lost their matchups against Madison College 4-1 and 4-0. Valorant's Imran Muhammad (Bronx, NY), Julio Lozano (Bronx, NY), Justin Too (New York, NY), Ryan Castro (Bronx, NY), Umair Irshad (Brooklyn, NY), Abel Sanchez (Bronx, NY), and Vasquez dropped their second straight match against John Wood Community College, 13-8. 
 
Ivan Minaya (New York, NY) returns off a bye week to join his fellow individual competitors Wegter and Perez to return to the win column this Tuesday, March 16th, at 5 p.m. against Irvine Valley College. Valorant looks to end their two-match skid this Friday, March 19th, at 7 p.m. against the Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona College live on twitch by clicking here.

The Panther Rocket League team Dakarie Downie (Brooklyn, NY), Kevin Martinez (Brooklyn, NY), and Jonathan Colvin (New York, NY) were denied another live matchup for the second consecutive week. After picking up their third victory of the season by forfeit against Wake Technical College, they will try to extend their winning streak to three this Thursday, March 18th, at 5 p.m. versus Rockland Community College live on twitch here.

On Thursday night, NBA2K21's Caleb Miller (Brooklyn, NY) got his third victory of the season, and Thomas dropped his first match the year both via forfeit. Thomas and Miller will both look to stay in the top four in the standings against Hinds Community College and North Essex Community College this Thursday, March 18th, at 6 p.m.

After having last Monday's match rescheduled, the Panther's Overwatch team Farouk Abdel Rahman (Queens, NY), Randy Arias (Bronx, NY), Derek Andrews (Brooklyn, NY), Marcial Garcia (Bronx, NY), Nathalie Morales (Brooklyn, NY)Travis Rosado (Brooklyn, NY)Bryan Vallejos (New York, NY), and Minaya will open the week with a doubleheader against Harrisburg Area Community College at 5 p.m. and Lincoln Land Community College at another time to be determined.
