NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2018) - On Thursday, the City University of New York Athletic Conference and Army ROTC announced their 2017-18 Community College Women's Basketball All-Stars at the Water Club in Manhattan.
Following a dominant regular season on the hardwood, Hostos freshman forward
Kayla Wilson was named the Player of the Year. Kingsborough freshman guard
Daisya Drayton earned Rookie of the Year praise, while Hostos'
DeVernie Winston grabbed Coach of the Year honors.
Player of the Year - Kayla Wilson, Fr, F, Hostos
Wilson has posted startling numbers in her debut season, averaging 16.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per contest. She is also shooting an astonishing 61.7 percent from the field, which ranks fourth-best in NJCAA Division III.
Additionally, Wilson, a seven-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection, has notched a double-double in 18 of her 22 games played this year.
Rookie of the Year - Daisya Drayton, Fr, G, Kingsborough
Drayton has led the Wave in just her first year, averaging a team-high 15.0 points per game on 43.1 percent shooting in 10 contests. She has dished out 32 assists and swiped 19 steals in that span, as well.
Coach of the Year - DeVernie Winston, Hostos
In his third season at the helm of the Caimans' program, Winston has mentored Hostos to a 21-2 record and the No. 1 ranking in the NJCAA Division III National Poll. His team's only losses have come against Division I opponents.
